Mather Hospital DaVinci Robotic Surgery Competition

June 5th 2025 (Mather Hospital)

Our team met with the Director of the Robotic Surgery Center of Excellence at Mather Hospital, Arif Ahmad. Our Students operated the robots arms as a surgeon would in a competition testing their skill. We also tried suturing and a simulated traditional laparoscopic procedure with a handheld camera. Our team took First Place in the competition against other teams using the da Vinci surgical robot.

Board of Education Meeting

June 5th 2025 (Longwood High School, Outer Board Room)

Our team was honored for all of our seasons successes by the Longwood School District Board of Education. They commended the team on their win of the Long Island Regional and their Impact Award which sets us a part as a team that others should emulate. We thank our School District and Board of Education for all their support over the past year.

Suffolk Legislature Meeting

June 3rd 2025 (William H Rogers Building, Smithtown, NY)

Our team was honored today by our Suffolk County Legislator Nick Caracappa. He invited our team to the Suffolk County Legislature for a session to award the team for their win of both the Long Island Regional and the Impact Award at the Long Island Regional. The team was introduced on the Legislature Floor and received a proclamation.

CEWIT Robot Demo

May 29th 2025 (CEWIT, Stony Brook University)

The Center for Excellence in Wireless and Information Technology at Stony Brook University invited Longwood RoboLions and the Kings Park Kingsmen to demonstrate their Long Island Winning Robots at their facilities. Professors of Mechanical engineering, Electrical engineering and Directors and Program leaders from Stony Brook, Suffolk Community College and various technology companies from across the island met with our students as we demoed our robots and spoke about what our development process looks like.

FIRST Signing Day

May 20th 2025 (Longwood High School)

Today our seniors joined FIRST Robotics Seniors around the world signing their Letters of Intent for college. This talented group of seniors will be pursuing various degrees and jobs in fields such as medicine, law, engineering, computer science and manufacturing.

Middle School Career Day

May 20th 2025 (Longwood Middle School)

As is our yearly tradition, Team 564 ventured down the road to our Middle School. There we joined professionals from a variety of career fields to speak with our Grade 5 and 6 students about possible career options. We focused on the career options that our Robotics Programs can help students pursue.

Longwood Day

May 17th 2025 (Longwood High School)

Longwood Day is a community event where our team gets to engage with the at large community. We get to showcase the programs we offer K-12 and generate excitement and buzz in our community regarding STEM. We were able to show off the robot to State Assembly Member Joe DeStefano and State Senator Dean Murray.

Best Buddies Hour of Code Event

May 14th 2025 (Longwood High School)

We teamed up with our best buddies organization to offer coding instruction through the code.org Hour of Code Program to our students who may not previously have experienced Coding. This runs in conjunction with our Best Buddies Hack-a-thon where we allow our best buddies members to compete in a coding competition run by our team.

STEAM Day

May 7th 2025 (NYS Capitol, Albany, NY)

We visited the New York State Capital at the invitation of Jen Lunsford Assembly member from the Rochester Region. We were there promoting bills in both the state assembly and state senate to allow for further funding for Tier 1 Schools with Robotics Programs. We were introduced on the assembly floor, received a proclamation, and met with various government officials to speak about the importance of Robotics in High School Education.

Team 564 takes the NY State Capitol by storm, advocating for funding for Title 1 Schools with Robotics Programs with our State Assembly Members.

FRC World Championships

April 15-20th 2025 (Houston, TX)

Team 564 traveled down to Houston to compete in the FIRST Robotics Competition World Championship. We competed with 600 other teams from around the world. We met with representatives from some of the top technology industries in the world, competed on the Johnson Field and had an absolute blast working with teams from countries all over the world.

Longwood Technology Expo

April 1st 2025 (Longwood High School)

Each year the Longwood Central School District hosts a night to showcase to the community at large what technology advancements are happening in classrooms across grades K-12. The RoboLions demonstrated alongside our FTC program, and showcased some of the projects we worked over the last two years.

FIRST Long Island Regional

March 19 -March 22nd 2025 (Hofstra University)

In a whirlwind of a competition, Team 564 took home the award for Winner and the most prestigious Impact Award. This award qualifies Team 564 for the World Championships in a few Weeks.

Finger Lakes Regional

March 12 – March 15th 2025 (Rochester Institute of Technology)

Team 564 traveled to the Rochester Institute of Technology to compete in the Finger Lakes Regional. We battled in an incredibly tough regional, finding issues with our vision and field localization systems. We worked the weekend fixing these systems so we will be ready to go next week at the Long Island Regional.

Regal Eagle Rampage

March 2nd 2025 (Bethpage High School)

We joined other teams from across Long Island to compete in the Week Zero event hosted by the Regal Eagles of Bethpage High School. This gave us a chance to run iLean before we enter official FIRST competition.

Applebees Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser

February 9th 2025 – Our 2025 Applebees Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser is in the books. What a hit and what a fun morning. Our Annual Super Bowl Sunday Morning Fundraiser is in the books. Thank you so much to all who donated, ate pancakes, purchased raffles and came out to celebrate!

Mentoring FTC team

Throughout the Fall our Mechanics, electricians, programmers, and CAD departments mentored our FTC team. Frequently hosting our Junior High Students for a trip to the High School to teach them about design, programming, wiring and answer questions about the Engineering Notebook. Many of our FTC students transition to our FRC Team when they reach the High School.

Annual Longwood Community BBQ

Annual Longwood Community BBQ – with over 1,000 participants yearly, this event fosters opportunities for children through initiation by showcasing collaborative efforts among various community stakeholders, including the fire department, police departments, community organizations, music talent, faculty, staff, and administration.
